Fall Cleanup & Leaf Removal for a local property

The details

What’s included

  • Lawn leaves and debris cleared from the lawn

Not included: Landscape bed cleanup and hauling are quoted separately.

Why fall cleanup matters

Protect the property before winter.

Matted wet leaves block light and air and can smother turf over a Midwest winter. Leaf drop in this stretch of the Mississippi runs heavy from late September through November, so getting leaves off before the ground freezes is far easier than dealing with them in spring. Fall is also the window when beds and edges are easiest to reset while growth has slowed.

Seasonal timing

Timing it right

Leaf drop starts in late September and builds through October. Late October to mid-November is the sweet spot for a final cleanup. Yards with heavy maples and oaks along the river often need more than one pass, and we can schedule a repeat visit during peak drop.

Leaf handling

Mulching or hauling: two ways to handle leaves

Mulching chops dry leaves into small pieces that break down in the turf and is a good fit for thin layers and regular passes. Collection and hauling removes the material from the property entirely and is available for an additional charge, quoted separately. The estimate will recommend which approach fits the property.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

When should I book fall cleanup?

Leaf drop starts in late September and builds through October. Late October to mid-November is the sweet spot for a final cleanup, so send a request early enough to plan around the heavier drop.

How many visits will my yard need?

Many properties need one final cleanup, while yards with heavy maples and oaks along the river often need more than one pass. We can schedule a repeat visit during peak drop. Estimates are free and depend on the property size and leaf volume; send a request or call (815) 440-3898.

Do you take the leaves away?

Hauling is not included. If requested, it is quoted separately.

What about mulching: will it help the lawn?

A light layer of leaves and organic material worked back into beds can feed the soil. A heavy mat of leaves should be removed rather than mulched because it can block light and air from the turf.
